The quintessential photo of Secretariat and his devoted groom Eddie Sweat. The image features Eddie, adorned in a Saratoga Racecourse red jacket leading his champion and pal to be saddled before a race at the famed, historic track in upstate New York.
The image is significant in that it is the inspiration behind the actual engraving on Sweat's black granite headstone recently erected in Vance, South Carolina. The creation and installation of the headstone was the culmination of a successful grass-roots effort to give the famed Meadow Stable groom the further recognition he so richly deserves. And Secretariat fans of all ages can take note that the image manifests Sweat's own words as part of the headstone epitaph reading: “I think they’ll take me to my grave with a pitchfork in my hand and a rub rag in my back pocket.”
Measures 8" x 10" with larger sizes available upon request. A wonderful offering recognizing one of the most influential members of the Meadow team responsible for Secretariat's success and enduring legacy.
